Since Truffle Melbourne began in 2014, we’ve become the biggest truffle festival weekend outside Europe. In 2018 we brought you over sixty dining and truffle hunt events across the winter truffle season and 2019 promises an even stronger year.
We believe everyone benefits from some truffle secrets and training, not just home cooks. We start our annual program with a workshop for chefs and sommeliers and last year eighty industry professionals joined us for an afternoon of truffle demonstrations and tastes at Philippe Restaurant - we're planning another insiders' party on 27 May this season.
Our season opening dinner followed at Stokehouse, where the team dazzled a full house with some extraordinary truffle treats. It was a superb opening to our 2018 Dining Program and 2019 will be even better so save the date - Wednesday 13 June.
Our 2018 Hunt Program was our most popular yet. People just love the unique experience of working with the dogs to find your truffle, along with learning more about the fabulous fungus. We'll be announcing dates for the 2019 truffle season hunts soon.
Melburnians flocked to the Truffle Melbourne Festival at Queen Victoria Market to savour superb truffle tastes from dumplings to donuts, pizza to raclette – all washed down at the Truffle Bar with truffle cocktails and accompanied by Melbourne’s best truffle chefs sharing their secrets. Everyone was happy under the big market rooftop – great demos, great tastes, great music and a happy vibe – a deeply satisfying weekend. We'll be back at QVM on 22 and 23 June this year.
Everyone loved our new truffle product range, featuring truffles from our own farm, Truffle Paddock. During spring and summer over forty fine stores across Melbourne continued to feature some or all of our range, and it's available 24/7 at trufflemelbourne.com .
Finally, the 2018 truffle harvest across the country was record breaking, with more than one tonne grown in Victoria and we even doubled production at our own farm. We're certain that Australia became the third largest truffle growing nation last season, producing a little more than the 15 tonnes produced in France the previous 2017/18 season. Aren’t we lucky!
