Life changing really! – exactly 6 months later I’m now the Festival Director for what will be Melbourne’s first ever truffle festival – a Melbourne celebration of all things truffle. Loving it. Working with truffle growers across Australia, artisan food producers, expert and celebrity truffle chefs, and other stakeholders in the industry.
We growers know that lots of Australians know about truffles – but they’re not familiar with them – and there’s been way too much of the “truffles are $2500 per Kilogram” stuff – silly – 1 Kg of truffle will produce a great feast for 100 people – a lot more than I’m planning on having over next weekend!
The festival will share truffle stories, offer extraordinary truffle experiences, but also cover the basics – where to get your truffles, how to store em (not a problem at trufflepadock – we love em fresh so we use them quickly!), and expert chef suggestions on how to work truffle magic. Great truffle chefs like Shannon Bennett (Vue de Monde,) Phillipe Mouchel (Melbourne truffle-chef legend & Paul Bocuse trained) and celebrity chef Manu Feildel of MKR fame.
