2021 Season in Review

Despite the many challenges that Covid threw at all of us, the truffles didn’t notice! Last season was a fabulous truffle one at Truffle Paddock farm – our truffle production almost doubled over 2020’s results. Although a huge winter storm blew down lots of 300 year old forest trees across our driveway the day before our first hunt, people managed to walk up a side track to the truffle paddock, which fortunately wasn’t damaged at all. We found some superb early season truffles and the season lasted well into August.

Luck was on our side too as we were able to stage our annual Truffle Melbourne Festival at Queen Victoria Market on the one weekend where we weren’t locked down. And it was our best event by far! People really enjoyed getting out and although the Covid check-in queues were long, everyone made it inside to enjoy a great entertainment program with the demo chefs and truffle dogs and music. With the help of our exhibitor friends, we served up superb truffle dishes and great truffle cocktails. Everyone had a fantastic time and every single truffle dish sold out by Sunday afternoon. So we’re excited to be able to do it again this year!

The pandemic certainly kept us challenged to re-invent ourselves several times over - and with the 2021 season over, we're busy in the truffle paddock - pruning, re-inoculating trees and planting some new ones.
